What is FSSAI Registration?
Any individual who wishes to operate a food business must have an FSSAI registration or license authorised by the state or central government. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India states that every Food Business Operator (FBO), who may be involved in the process of preparing, manufacturing, selling, distributing, transporting or storing food is required to have an FSSAI registration.
As per Section 31(1) of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006(FSS Act), having an FSSAI license helps the government ensure the production process of food products follows the set standard rules and regulations. You will receive a 14 digit license number after receiving your FSSAI registration or FSSAI License.

Own a small business or a large enterprise? Your FSSAI requirement varies between Basic Registration, State License, or Central License based on your business size and type.
Basic FSSAI registration
If your business has a turnover of less than Rs. 12 lakhs per annum, then you will be required to acquire the FSSAI basic registration. The individual will need to fill up Form A to acquire the basic license. This is mostly for small-scale food businesses.
FSSAI State License
If your business has a turnover of more than Rs. 12 lakh per annum and less than Rs. 20 crore per annum, then you will be required to acquire the FSSAI state license. For this, the individual will need to fill up Form B. This is for medium-scale food businesses.
FSSAI Central License
If your business has a turnover of more than Rs. 20 crore per annum, then you will be required to acquire an FSSAI license. The individual will need to fill up Form B for this purpose. This is for large-scale food businesses.
